I grew up in a food desert, gardening with my parents, and I have continued this tradition with my husband and two children. I learned from these experiences how important it is to teach food literacy and food security to both children and adults. I am a professor emeritus of biochemistry with 22 years of experience teaching lecture and laboratory classes, including classes on nutrition. I believe the best place to teach nutrition and food literacy is in the garden. Learn more about the Huachuca City Community Garden on Facebook.
