Laura Valero is a plant-based nurse practitioner in a small primary care clinic in Virginia. She received her T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate in 2017, and she will be taking the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine’s exam in December 2021 so that she can practice as a Lifestyle Medicine professional. She also did an observational rotation at the Barnard Medical Center in Washington, DC, an organization that is a trailblazer in lifestyle medicine. She gives talks in her local community on plants as medicine, the Blue Zones, and the link between animal production and environmental damage. Fluent in Spanish, she hopes to develop resources, recipes, and cooking classes for the Hispanic community, especially those who do not have health insurance.
